Birthday Was Wonderful! So was Father’s Day

Queen of Sheba

Queen of Sheba

I had a wonderful lunch at the Queen of Sheba with my Mother.  They are an African restaurant that serves authentic Ethiopian food. The food there is very healthy consisting of very lean meats and highly spiced and fragrant vegetables served on a plate that is covered with Injara bread that becomes your fork, if you eat it traditionally.  Of course they will provide a fork if you want to eat it American style.

They also serve a spiced ice tea that is absolutely amazing.  I have not watched mom eat so much food in one sitting in a long time.  It made me happy just to see her eat a good meal… and the food there is amazingly reasonable and the portions are wonderfully robust.

After that we went to the mall and I got to walk a couple of laps around the mall while mom shopped a bit.  I came back to Sears where I found my new coffee maker.  I previously had a cheap Mr. Coffee… everyone of those damn things leak after about 5 months… and they only have a 90 day warranty.  I tried a Bunn and it just did not make hot coffee… and no matter how much coffee I used it tasted weak to me.  While at Sears I found this Kenmore Coffee Maker that has all the bells and whistles.  I have it programmed to go off at 06:00am in the morning… hopefully it will make a nice strong cuppa joe.  I hope this one lasts a lot longer.  I kept the box… the thing has a five year warranty.

Then the best thing of the day is I talked with my Dad for about an hour tonight.  I had to call my Aunt Cathy to get the number… but it was pleasant to talk with him for a while.  I wish I could have more contact with him, but he has moved to Florida.  He claims that he has better medical treatment there, but I wish he was closer so I can look after him more.

All in all, this was a pretty decent Birthday.  As I get older I don’t care so much about gifts… I have all the material things that I need.  I have a great family… and lots of friends.  I learn that the older I get what matters the most is not what we have, but who we have in our lives.  I know now more than ever that it’s more important to spend time with family and friends every chance we get.  None of us has tomorrow promised to us… so we must make the most of every moment we have.

I love you my family and friends.  May God bless you and keep you safe from harm.  May you have great health and many birthdays to come.

  1. Update… the coffee maker turned out to be a turkey… it went back to Sears and was replaced by the Cuisinart model newer than the one that went out. The Cuisinart does not make coffee as hot as the old one, but still way hotter than the Kenmore turkey.
